Garbage,Recyclables & Green Waste

Please see the policy in its entirety below in the Documents section. This policy includes a statement of purpose, definitions, specific details to each type of pick up, and a schedule.

Household Garbage and Recyclables will be picked up every TUESDAY (very early morning) in the RESIDENTIAL AREA and every TUESDAY and FRIDAY (very early morning) in the COMMERCIAL DISTRICT (garbage & recyclables on Tuesday, garbage only on Fridays). 

Large Items and Debris will be picked up once a month, on the LAST WEDNESDAY of the month, from APRIL through NOVEMBER. Due to snow removal, these items will no longer be picked up in January, February, March and December. The Department of Public Works or the Garbage Contractor will not pick up trash debris generated by contractors performing building renovation or tree removal. Residents need to inform their contractors to make arrangements for debris removal. Also, renters may not put furniture at the curb except at the scheduled time for pick up. Please refer to the schedule below. 

Green Waste and Clean Hard Fill will be picked up on the FIRST and THIRD MONDAYS of the month, from APRIL through early DECEMBER. Monday is the scheduled day. However, if it cannot all be picked up that day, the remainder will be done on Tuesday. Due to snow removal, these items will no longer be picked up in January, February, March and late December. There is one exception: Christmas trees will be picked up in December and January.

Please note, the Town of Kirkland Transfer Station, located at 3699 State Route 12B, IS NOT for use by Village residents. It is only for use by Town residents.

NOTICE: As of March 18, 2025, the Town of Kirkland NO LONGER accepting GREEN WASTE from the Village of Clinton.

In addition, all residents of Oneida and Herkimer Counties may also take items for disposal to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority. There are two facilities: EcoDrop Utica (80 Leland Avenue Extension, Utica, NY 13502) and EcoDrop Rome (575 Perimeter Road, Rome, NY 13440). Please see their website for more information.

Disposing of unused, unwanted, or leftover PAINT: Residents can visit the O.H.S.W.A. listed directly above. Another option is PaintCare.org. Most locations are paint retailers, which are convenient locations open year-round and seven days a week.
